John Arthur Rittenhouse, 74 of Rochester Mills passed away suddenly at his home on Saturday, November 12, 2016.  Mr. Rittenhouse was born on August 13, 1942, a son of the late James and Anna (Tobasco) Rittenhouse.  John was married to his wife, Mary (Deemer) Rittenhouse for 50 years as of August 13, 1966.  Mary survives.

John retired as a mechanic from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania after over 30 years of faithful service.  In his spare time, John enjoyed tinkering with vehicles and tractors.  He also previously enjoyed hunting, walking in the woods, and gardening.  Although John was a stubborn and independent man, he was always there for everyone never saying no when asked to help.   He dearly loved his wife, Mary and always worried about her.  John was a family man who was loved and will be missed.

In addition to his wife, Mary, John is survived by a son, John A. Rittenhouse, Jr. of Delancy; and three daughters, Victoria Bush and her husband James of Punxsutawney, Caroline Mundis and her husband Jesse of York, PA, and Stephanie Rittenhouse of Punxsutawney.  John is also survived by two brothers, Charles "Chuck" E. Rittenhouse and his wife Madalyn of Knoxdale, and Ronald Rittenhouse and his wife Sandy, also of Knoxdale.  His grandchildren are, Dianna Shreckengost and her husband Ben, Nichole Martin and her husband Caleb, Shannon and Marcus Bush, Jesse Jr, Heather, and Adam Mundis, Tiffany Bair and Donovan Pruzinsky.  His great-grandchildren are, Riley, Olivia, Clayton, and Kolton Schreckengost, Carter Martin, Dominic Iozza, and Kaylen Pennington

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a brother, James Rittenhouse and an infant sister.

Friends will be received at the Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc of Punxsutawney on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. 

Interment will follow at Lakelawn Cemetery in Reynoldsville.
