William John Shema, 68, of Punxsutawney, passed away at home on Wednesday, April 21, 2021.
He was born in Punxsutawney on June 15, 1952, a son of Marcella Catherine (Kerchinski) Shema and the late John Shema Jr.
Bill worked as a mechanic for Keys Equipment and Dunlap Lawn and Garden Equipment for many years.
He spent over thirty years with his caretaker and best friend, Sonya Barnett.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #1231 in Punxsutawney and the Brookville Fireman’s Club.
He had a great sense of humor, was quick witted and enjoyed being around people. He had a kind heart and would lend a hand to anyone in need.
In addition to his mother Marcella and his friend Sonya, he is survived by two brothers, Larry Shema of Punxsutawney and Andrew Shema and wife Lisa of Telford, PA; two sisters, Linda Waddell and husband John of DuBois and Donna Raya-Aguilera of Gloucester, Virginia.
Preceded in death by his father John, and one sister, Betty Ann Shema-Morris.
Friends will be received from 11-1 on Monday, April 26, 2021 at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
A memorial service will be held at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Monday, officiated by Father Vasyl Kadar.
His ashes will be interred at S.S. Peter & Paul Byzantine Cemetery.
