William Rowbottom Obituary

William “Bill” Patrick Rowbottom of Punxsutawney passed away Sunday, December 23, 2018 at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh.  Bill was a son of the late Joseph Ursula and E. Bonita (Ackerd) Rowbottom.

Bill was a well-known figure and businessman in Punxsutawney as the owner-operator of Rowbottom Monument Company.  Following high school, Bill attended the Vermont School of Art and returned to assume ownership of the business in the 1950’s after his father passed away.  Even in retirement, Bill busied himself in numerous activities and especially enjoyed walking the DuBois mall nearly every day to keep fit and healthy.  Bill was a very independent and spry man who was sharp as a tack with a heathy mind and body as a result of his active lifestyle.

Although Bill had no children of his own, he loved his nieces and nephews as if they were his own children.  He is survived by a brother, James L. Rowbottom and wife Jeanne of North Olmstead, OH; his nephews, Robert J. Fleming of Treasure Lake; Dr. James Rowbottom of the Cleveland area, Tom Humm of Las Vegas, James Williams of Lebanon, Illinois; and his nieces, Deborah A. Fleming of Las Vegas and Linda (Rowbottom) Winfield of the Cleveland Area; and, Cathy (Humm) DeValliere and Lori (Humm) Scharar of Las Vegas. In addition to various other nieces and nephews.

In addition to Bill’s parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brothers, John F., Joseph P. and infant John Rowbottom.  His sisters were Bonita Strayer, Anne Humm, Theresa Williams, Betty Ake, Sara Marie Rowbottom, and Mary Catherine Fleming.

Friends will be received at the Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc of Punxsutawney on Friday, December 28, 2018 from 2 - 4 p.m.  A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Saints Cosmas and Damian Catholic Church officiated by Monsignor Joseph Riccardo.

Interment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Punxsutawney.
