William Damian Phillips Sr. 93 of Punxsutawney; passed away December 23, 2022, at his home. He was born on April 30, 1929, in Punxsutawney the son of the late Nickolas and Elizabeth (Williams) Phillips.
He joined the Army in 1946, served in the Pacific theater, and was discharged in 1947. He worked at Punxsutawney Beef and married Amanda Mallette in 1955.They moved to Michigan, and he worked for General Motors as a machine repairman. Amanda passed in 1960. In 1966 he met and married Joan (Vasbinder) Phillips. They lived in Northville, Michigan and he also worked part time at the police and fire departments. After retirement from GM, they returned to Punxsutawney in 1987. He worked for Quality gear and also part time as a police dispatcher.
William was a member of the Lindsey Fire Department and The Bishop Romza Men's Club at Saints Peter & Paul Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Joan Phillips of Punxsutawney and three children, Michael L. Phillips and His wife Cathy of South Lyon, MI, Joyce Harmon and her husband Ron of Bois Blanc Island, MI, Lorrain Phillips and his wife Melissa also of Bois Blanc Island, MI and 5 Grandchildren, Todd, Amanda, Tara, Damian Raymond and 4 Great Grandchildren Morgan, Taylor, Anthony and Brynn.
In addition to his parents, Wiiliam was preceded in death by his Son Wiiliam D. Phillips Jr. and ten siblings, Lorraine, Nikolas, Francis, Joseph, Paul, Raymond, Richard Phillips, Rita Davis, Mary DeChurch and Grace Cooper.
The Family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 28th 7-9pm at Shumaker Funeral Home in Punxsutawney.
A funeral Liturgy will be held at Saints Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church on December 29th at 11am, Celebrated by Father Vasyl Kadar. Burial Service will follow at Cavalry Cemetery with full military honors accorded by the Jefferson County Veterans Honor Guard.
In Lieu of flowers Memorial contributions can be made in his Memory to Saints peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church of Punxsutawney.
