William Lovelace Obituary

William A. Lovelace,71, of Dora/Punxsutawney, passed away unexpectedly while on vacation in Norfolk, Virginia on Saturday, September 03, 2022.

He was born in Punxsutawney on April 3, 1951, the son of  the Martha (Davidson) Lovelace and Thomas L. Lovelace.

On June 22, 2001, he married Cathryn (Wingert) Sones.  They had twenty-one years of marriage, thirty years together, twenty and a half years longer than anyone thought they would make it.  Cathy survives.

William was a 1969 graduate of Punxsutawney Area High School.

He drove coal and log trucks, worked as a heavy equipment operator, his “passion” of playing with the “big boy toys.”

He was recently employed with Original Fuels.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Punxsutawney.  He attended the Solid Rock Community Church in Big Run.

Although a little rough around the edges, he was a loving husband, a good provider and a hard worker. He loved riding his Harley with his wife, gardening, hunting with Lindsay and spending time with Isaac and Caleb.

In addition to his wife Cathryn, he is survived by a daughter, Becky Lovelace of Big Run; step children, Paula (Sones) Heider and husband George of Norfolk, Virginia, Michelle (Sones) Depp and husband Richard of Beverly, West Virginia, Dustin Sones of Portsmouth, Virginia, and Lindsay (Sones) Smith and husband Tyler of Punxsutawney; step-grandchildren, Samantha (Heider) McGohan and husband Brandon of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Hannah Sones of Portsmouth, Virginia, Jacob Sones of Savannah, Georgia, Sydney (Depp) Ninness and husband Tyler of Berea, Kentucky, Liam Depp of Beverly, West Virginia, Isaac and Caleb Smith of Punxsutawney; siblings, Thomas Lovelace, Phyllis Girosky, Fran Osburn and husband Jeff; nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a son, William “Billy” Lovelace.

Friends will be received Saturday, September 10, 2022, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. when a memorial service officiated by Pastor Joel Fugate will be held at Solid Rock Community Church, Big Run. Arrangements entrusted to Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Big Run.

His ashes will one day be interred at McClure Cemetery.
