William Lynn Hockenberry, 64, of Punxsutawney, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Spangler on June 01, 1960, a son of the late Raymond Edward Hockenberry and Audrey Mae (Hollen) Hockenberry.
Lynn was a 1978 graduate of Purchase Line High School.
He met the love of his life, Rebecca Jean Grantz on the steps of a church in Mahaffey. The two wed on May 23, 1981, and would have celebrated their forty-fifth wedding anniversary on Friday.
Lynn worked as a tree trimmer for Asplundh and Townsend before moving into the gas field where he enjoyed working as a maintenance engineer prior to his retirement.
He will be remembered for his strong determination to face his illness with strength and humility that defined his character.
He was a member of the Mt Calvary Chapel Church in Mahaffey and the Rochester Gun Club.
Family was the most important thing to Lynn, he loved his wife, children and grandchildren beyond measure. He was the founder of the WLH Wrestling Club. In the club, he enjoyed playing and teaching his grandson to wrestle. All of his grandchildren held a special part of his heart, they brought him more joy than they will ever know.
In his free time he loved to fish.
Throughout the years, Lynn became a second father to many of his children’s friends. His home was a welcoming place where young people found a listening ear, love and support as well as guidance which earned him a special place in the hearts of many.
In addition to his wife Becky, he is survived by two children, Jesse Lynn (Kathryn) Hockenberry of Punxsutawney, Brittany Linn (Cody) Martz of Tennessee, an adopted son, T.J. (Maria) Weaver of Alexandria, Virginia; four grandchildren, Colton and Heath Martz, and Laif and Rose Hockenberry of Punxsutawney; and all those who were lucky enough to call him family-by blood or by heart.
