Thomas Leo Crumlish, 70, of Punxsutawney, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, July 21, 2021.
He was born in Philadelphia on July 1, 1951, a son of the late Thomas Leo Crumlish and Anna Theresa Bertha (Schauder) Crumlish.
Thomas was Catholic by faith and attended Saints Cosmas and Damian Catholic Church.
On July 25, 1987, he married Karen Ann Rogers. She survives and resides in Punxsutawney.
U. S. Army Master Sergeant Crumlish, retired from the United States Army after a long and faithful career spanning over three decades (33 years). During his long and honorable Army career, MSgt Crumlish served on both active duty and in the USAR deploying to Southwest Asia in support of the Global War on Terrorism. A decorated Army veteran, he received the Meritorious Service Medal, the highest Department of Defense non-combat decoration awarded for exceptional meritorious service; the Army Commendation Medal six times; the Army Achievement Medal five times; the Army Good Conduct Medal seven times; the National Defense Service Medal three times; the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. MSgt Crumlish was a proud defender of our freedom whose dedication and many personal sacrifices helped to keep our nation free from the tyrannies of those who sought to revoke our precious way of life from us. He was a humble man and a true patriot who believed in life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Our community and our nation thank you for your service to the greatest nation on earth!
When not wearing the uniform, Tom’s favorite pastimes were working on cars, riding his motorcycle, fishing, playing semi-pro lacrosse and watching Philadelphia sports. The family enjoyed going to the shore every year, where they learned crabbing and fishing from their dad.
In addition to his wife Karen, he is survived by three children, Michael Crumlish and wife Ashley of Indianapolis, Indiana, Thomas A Crumlish of Shippenville, PA and Megan Lane and husband Patrick of Rome, PA; two granddaughters, Natalie and Mckenzy, and a new baby on the way soon; six grandpups, Lily, Chandler, Logan, Victor, Apollo and Molly; two sisters, Mary Myers of Shelbyville, Kentucky and Gertrude Ferguson of Philadelphia; many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, James Crumlish; two sisters, Frances Rodgers, Catherine Taylor; four brother in-laws, Eugene “Benny” Taylor, Andrew Rodgers, Kenneth Myers and Oliver Ferguson.
In keeping with Tom’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
A memorial service will be held at a later date and his ashes will be interred at Whitemarsh Cemetery, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.
