Thelma Gladys Haag, 91, of Punxsutawney, passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at Allegheny General Hospital.
She was born in Clymer on July 28, 1934, a daughter of the late Joseph John Beresnyak and Winona Gladys (Barrett) Beresnyak.
On July 14, 1956, she married her sweetheart, Robert Aber Haag. They enjoyed sixty-five years of marriage prior to his death on September 26, 2021.
She was a member of the Oliveburg Presbyterian Church.
Thelma was a farmer’s wife, she was steadfast and strong, she worked side by side with her husband Bob for many years tending to the daily chores that needed to be done. She was a wonderful wife and mother, she loved to cook and bake for her family. She previously worked at Sylvania, Rockwell and Ruth & Harry’s Restaurant, and sold Avon in addition to taking care of her family. Later in life she enjoyed helping in the kitchen at the Country Villa Restaurant, owned by her son Grover and his wife Monica.
Thelma enjoyed her family and particularly her grandchildren. She liked to travel, take vacations and going camping with her family at Knox. For her fiftieth wedding anniversary, she and Bob took a month and drove out west together.
She is survived by three sons, Robert Allen “Grover” (Monica) Haag of Punxsutawney, William Joseph (Tammy) Haag of Punxsutawney and Edward (Sharon) Haag of Middlesex, North Carolina; daughter in-law, Lisa Haag-Smith; seven grandchildren, Robert (Carrie) Haag III, Brian Haag, Trista (Tom) Pooley, Phillip Lewis, Jesse (Kaeley) Haag, Cory Haag and Cheriee (Buddy) Tom; ten grandchildren, Deven Haag, Jayden, Brooklyn and Gavin Pooley, Lillian Haag, Nathaniel, Madilyn, Matthew, Jackson and Harlee Tom; one brother, Robert Bresnock of Home; two sisters, Helen Moore on Minnesota and Nancy (Bob) Rosenberger of Delaware; numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband Bob, one son, Kenny Haag; one granddaughter, Ashlee Haag; one brother, Cyrus Bresnock.
Friends will be received from 2-6 p.m. on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney and from 10 a.m. until Noon on Thursday, at the Oliveburg Presbyterian Church.
A funeral service will be held at noon at the church, officiated by Pastor Glenn McQuown.
Interment will be at Oliveburg Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made in Thelma’s memory to the American Diabetes Foundation or the Oliver Township Fire Company.
