Sue Anderson Obituary

Sue Ann Anderson, 79, of Springfield, VA, passed away November 11, 2023 at BridgePoint Hospital National Harbor in Washington DC after a prolonged illness.

She was born on April 8, 1944 in Bradford, PA the daughter of the late Ardell and Betty (Sutter) Heckler. On August 21st 1965 she married the love of her life Wayne Anderson. They moved to Fordam in the early 1970’s and were happily married for 42 years until his death on April 3, 2008.

Sue was an avid gardener of both flowers and vegetables. She and her husband Wayne were extremely proud when their flower garden won “Garden of the Month” through the Punxsutawney Garden Club. Along with gardening, her other hobbies included refinishing furniture, canning, crafting, baking, and beating anyone at a game of 500 Rummy. Sue devoted her life to her family and friends. She always had a smile on her face and made everyone around her feel welcome especially at her dining room table. Her favorite holiday was Thanksgiving where she would prepare a feast and invite all to eat with her and her family.  Sue worked for years at the New Anchor Inn making pizza and then moved to Gimmick’s Restaurant where her famous homemade pies and soups were loved by everyone. 

Sue is survived by her daughter, Brenda Anderson Galarza and her husband Guillermo of Springfield, VA; her two precious grandchildren: Nicolas and Natalia Galarza; her brother, Glen “Butch” Heckler Sr. of Valier, sister, Sandy Schmiedlin and her husband John of Pittsburgh and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Sue was preceded in death by her son, William Anderson; her younger brother, Raymond Heckler and sister-in-law Sharon Heckler.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Sunday, November 19, 2023 at Valier Cemetery. Burial will be in Valier Cemetery. Friends can pay their respects at the Celebration of Life at the Perry Township Firehall in Valier at 12:00 noon following the service. 

Memorial Contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
