Shirley Elmira (Keller) Welsh, 87, of Reynoldsville (Stump Creek) passed away on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at Penn Highlands DuBois.
She was born in Gaskill Township on June 21, 1936, a daughter of the late Samuel and Elmira (Muth) Keller.
Her parents both passed away when she was a young girl and she was lovingly raised by her older sisters.
On June 27, 1954, she married her sweetheart, Donald Welsh, who passed away just a few short months ago on March 16, 2023. They were married for sixty-eight years. Shirley became Don’s primary caregiver for many years as he battled Alzheimer’s Dementia.
Mrs. Welsh worked as a Nurse’s Aide for many years both at the Adrian Hospital and the Punxsutawney Area Hospital. She was a caring person who over the years helped care for many of her family members in their time of need.
Shirley was a member of the Paradise United Church of Christ for many years. She was a past member of the Big Run VFW Auxilliary Post 9044.
She loved gardening, square dancing, and was an avid bird watcher. She enjoyed vacationing at Twin Oaks hunting camp and family camping trips when the boys were young.
She is survived by two sons, Garry (Lori) Welsh of Punxsutawney and Kevin (Susan) Welsh of Reynoldsville; two grandsons, Nicholas Welsh of Punxsutawney, and Nathaniel (Chasity) Welsh of Hamilton; one brother, Clair Keller of Stump Creek.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald, six siblings Kathrine Brooks, Paul Keller, Viola Bowers, Beulah Reed, Merle Keller and Carl Keller.
Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, June 25, 2023, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Big Run and from 10 a.m. until the time of service at Paradise United Church of Christ.
A funeral service will be held at the church at 11 a.m. Monday, co-officiated by Pastors Donna Jarrell and Barry Fillman.
Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery at the Paradise United Church of Christ.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Paradise United Church of Christ.
