Sara Jean Woodson, 68, of Big Run, passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, September 26, 2022.

She was born in Punxsutawney on March 19, 1954, a daughter of the late Jack Mansbury Campbell and Dorothy (Zufall) Campbell.

Sara was a member of Big Run Presbyterian Church and was instrumental in the weekly planning and preparation of services.  She loved to sing and led the music on Sundays.

Sara attended the Art Institute of Pittsburgh following high school.

On November 8, 1975, she married George Kenneth Woodson.  He preceded her in death on December 06, 2009.

She worked as a cake decorator at DuBois Bilo for many years.  She enjoyed making another person’s special day perfect with a beautiful cake. Yearly she crafted amazing Pysanky eggs, she was patient and had an eye for detail.  Sara was happy to lend her tips and advice to new beginners of the egg decorating.  She was known for her funny, zany earrings and each October she would paint many different designs on her eyeglasses to celebrate Halloween.  She always had a smile and an encouraging word to those she encountered.

Sara was happy to assist her friends that needed a ride to meetings and doctor appointments.  They always knew they could count on her to help.  She was kind, humble and a ray of sunshine in world of many others.

She served on the election board in Big Run, Fairview Cemetery committee, helped organize the Veteran’s programs.  She was a former member of the Reynoldsville Theater Arts Guild and the Big Run Free Militia.  Sara was an avid reader when she was not involved in other things.

She is survived by three siblings, Nora Campbell of Big Run, with whom she made her home, Malcolm Campbell and wife Rozie of Coolspring, and Alice Gauding and husband Dennis of Punxsutawney; four step-children, George “Bucky” Woodson and wife Bridget of Timblin, Crystal Fowler, Trish Woodson and Jeannette Woodson, all of Texas; two grandchildren, Tige and George Woodson III.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no visitation.  Arrangements entrusted to Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Big Run.

Friends will be received from noon until 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at the Big Run Presbyterian Church.  A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. at the church, officiated by Pastor Carole Bergman.
