Sandra Lorraine McFarland, 85, of Punxsutawney, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 22, 2021, surrounded by her loving family after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimers.
She was born in Gypsy, Indiana County, on September 24, 1935, a daughter of the late Wayne Berringer and Grace (Spicher) Berringer. Her stepfather was Sam Lynch.
She married Lloyd Gaston in 1954, he died as the result of an accident in 1955. On October 18, 1958, she married Floyd Murray McFarland. He preceded her in death on April 11, 2019.
Sandy was a member of the Rossiter Calvary United Methodist Church.
She worked for many years as a Postmaster in LaJose and Marion Center, prior to retirement.
Her enjoyments were her children and grandchildren. Sewing and Quilting were a hobbies she enjoyed as well.
She is survived by three children, Wanda Bishop and husband Bill of Punxsutawney, Leigh Ann McFarland and Rob Ripe of Colorado and Todd McFarland and wife Jolene of Rossiter; three grandchildren, Natasha McFarland and Tony Manners, Kelsey Best and husband Ryan and Ethan Bishop; three great grandchildren, Trey Manners, Aubrey Jo Best and Asher Jude Best; one sister, Donna Ramer of Greensburg.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Lloyd Gaston and Floyd McFarland; one brother Llwayne “Tinker” Berringer.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, July 26, 2021, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Janet Chiplis.
Interment will follow at Pearce Cemetery, Rossiter.
Memorial donations may be made in Sandy’s memory to the Rossiter Calvary United Methodist Church.
