Samuel Joseph Serian, 82, of Rossiter, passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2024,
at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
He was born in Punxsutawney on August 29, 1941, a son of the late Fred Serian
and Lucinda Jane (Smyers) Serian. On November 11, 1962, he married Ruth Carol Stamler who preceded him in death on December 24, 2001.
Sam was grounded in faith and attended Mass every morning. As a talented, skilled and successful real estate and investment entrepreneur, he lived his faith by helping and praying for every need presented to him. He and Ruth owned and operated a business caring for others for thirty years. Some of his best days were spent outdoors with his cousin Bobby Pirinelli and brother-in-law John. He would often be heard singing, not for an audience, but for the pure joy he found in music. He loved traveling locally and abroad and was most content on the go. Because he was raised in a house full of people, he reveled in gatherings with the noise that accompanies friends, family, children, laughter, stories, music and good food!
Mr. Serian proudly served in the US Army Reserves for twenty-four years obtaining the rank of sergeant. He was a member of the Lion’s Club for forty years and received recognition for his service.
He is survived by two daughters and their children. Stacey Love, his constant companion, business partner and loving caregiver and husband Timothy, who surpassed in-law to be a true son to Sam, their children and Pop’s joy, Braden Timothy Love and Cassidy Elizabeth Love; Heather and her son, Rooney James Kunselman, who was affectionately nicknamed “the Sam-bassador” as the youngest grandchild, his Pop constantly requested reports on his status; two brothers, Thomas (Sue) Serian of Port St. Lucie, Florida and Dennis Serian and Thomas McCullough of Stratford, Connecticut and Pompano Beach, Florida who will now discuss local history without the brother who chose to remain in Rossiter to provide updates. Many friends, cousins, nieces and nephews also invested their time contributing to Sam’s happiness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruth, two brothers Fred Serian and infant Salvatore Serian and three sisters, Rose (John) Brink, Betty (Rich) Brink and Beverly (Anthony, Bud) Villella; and a grandson, Daniel Joseph Shively, who he loved so dearly he documented their activities and adventures in a diary.
Friends and family are invited to a funeral Mass to be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Saints Cosmas and Damian Catholic Church, officiated by Monsignor Joseph Riccardo. Arrangements entrusted to Shumaker Funeral Home, INc., Punxsutawney.
Interment at Union Hill Cemetery, Rossiter. A gathering will be held immediately after at the Rossiter American Legion.
