Samuel George Hanley, 94, of Punxsutawney, passed away Friday, November 8, 2024, at McKinley Health Center in Brookville.
He was born in Punxsutawney on May 7, 1930, one of the fourteen children of the late George Hanley and Maude (Reesman) Hanley.
Mr. Hanley served his country in the United States Marine Corp with distinction, exemplifying the values of honor, courage and commitment.
Following his discharge from the Marines, Sam worked in the coal mining industry for a while and then began working for Dunkle Roofing, where he remained for many years and finally hung it up at age seventy-five. He was a tough, dedicated, hard-working man all his life.
Over the years, Sam experienced the joy and companionship of marriage, unfortunately his wives, Delores, Agnes and Lillian, all preceded him in death.
His enjoyments were taking care of his property, shooting pistols, riding his trike and relaxing while watching television.
He is survived by three brothers, George, Gilbert and Raymond Hanley; three sisters, Kathy Conrad, Maxine Cooper and Mary Leonard.
Preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Paul, Robert, Arnold and James Hanley; three sisters, Sally Whitesell, Barbara Hanley and Jeanie Cignetti.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no visitation. Arrangements entrusted to Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
