Ruth Elizabeth Thom, 86, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at Mulberry Healthcare, Punxsutawney.
She was born in New York City on July 26, 1938, a daughter of the late Morris Kaufman and May (Carter) Kaufman. Older siblings, Ralph, Dorothy, Beatrice, and Lois predeceased her; younger brother Robert, and wife Louise survive.
In 1956, she married the love of her life, Robert Malcolm Thom. They enjoyed fifty-eight years of marriage prior to his death in 2015, nearly all of the time living in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
Ruth and her husband Robert were known in Cuyahoga Falls as proprietors of Thom’s Boarding and Training Kennel for forty years. Ruth also worked as a veterinarian assistant for thirty-five years.
Ruth's life will be remembered and celebrated by her surviving family: Two daughters, Karen (Jerry) Duffell of Punxsutawney, and Diane Thom and husband Martin Kyne of Boston: six grandchildren, Sandy (Michael) Troast, Jackie (Ed) Gaston, Monica (Joshua) Snoke, Jessica Duffell, Sydney Kyne, and Halle Kyne; five great grandchildren, Rosie, Annabel and Josephine Troast, Sunny and Barrett Gaston, and a new great grandbaby on the way.
Arrangements were private and under the direction of Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
Interment was at Northampton Cemetery, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
