Robert “Bob” Eugene Umbaugh, 79, of Punxsutawney, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2025, at the Embassy of Hillsdale Park.
He was born at home in Armstrong County on September 26, 1945, a son of the late Wilbert Luther “Shine” Umbaugh and Janet Larina (Shreckengost) Umbaugh.
Prior to his illness, he worked at Jackson China and as a mechanic at Umbaugh’s Sales and Service.
Robert faced each day with remarkable grace. The love and care he received from his sister were a profound testament to the strength of their bond. Kathryn’s compassion, patience and tireless dedication ensured that Robert’s years were filled with dignity, comfort and connection to his family that loved him dearly. He enjoyed Bingo, word search, going out to eat and spending time with his family.
Survived by his sister, Kathryn “Dolly” Means of Punxsutawney, Irene Smith of Amarillo, Texas, Jane Wulfert of Punxsutawney and Linda Umbaugh of Punxsutawney; numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, James Umbaugh; five sisters, Betty Umbaugh, Grace Frederick, Frances Rimer, Alice Mae Umbaugh and Dorothy Hunt.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. at the funeral home officiated by Jeff Stahlman.
Interment will follow at Salem Hills United Church of Christ Cemetery, Cowanshannock Twp, Armstrong County.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donating your time to a local nursing home facility to encourage companionship and kindness.
