Robert “Bob” Eugene Fye, 96, of Punxsutawney, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2023, at Mulberry Square.
He was born on October 15, 1926, in Henderson, Twp, the son of the late Meade L.and Emma V. (Haag) Fye.
On October 15, 1996, he married Doris Gerano, who preceded him in death on June 6, 2016.
During his lifetime he was an active member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Troutville and Brady Grange #1218. Being a faithful Christian, he and his wife Doris were always willing to help the local Amish community.
Bob owned Fye Park near Troutville, where reunions and weekly square dances were held.
He was a self-employed farmer until he joined the United States Postal Service. He was a Letter Carrier in Punxsutawney for twenty-three years until his retirement.
Bob and Doris spent many winters in Calabash, North Carolina where he enjoyed the warm weather, the local seafood and playing golf. He also enjoyed playing card games, he belonged to various bowling leagues, enjoyed collecting sports cards and watching sports, especially the Pirates, Steelers and Penguins. His favorite pastime was driving his beloved puppy “Sweetie” around the area with him.
Robert is survived by three daughters, Cheryl L. Gray and husband Paul of Everett, Washington; M. Sue Fye and significant other, Richard Foley of Ivor, VA; and Wanda Schmaus and husband Michael of Punxsutawney; stepdaughter, Robin Shaffer of Wilmington, North Carolina; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Robert was preceded in death by five brothers, Frank, Glen, Carl, Perl and Max Fye; and four sisters, Jeanette Knarr, Sara Pifer, Grace Marshall and Martha Jane Kopp; and his former wife, Jessie (Fye) Bishop.
Bob was a man of few words, but everyone knew that his favorite saying was “Go for it”.
A memorial service will be held at a future date to be announced.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc. Big Run.
Interment will be at Morningside Cemetery, DuBois.
