Bishop Rex Michael Slaughter was called home by his Lord early Sunday morning, January 16, while a patient in Penn Highlands DuBois. He was 65 years of age.
Brother Rex was born April 22, 1956, in Columbus, Ohio, a son of Herman and Barbara (Gunsaulies) Slaughter.
He is a 1974 graduate of Westland High School in Galloway, Ohio, and a 1980 graduate of The Ohio State University. He received his Doctor of Divinity degree from Grace Apostolic College, Inc. in 2000. Prior to coming to Brookville, he was employed by Recreation and Parks in Columbus. He was ordained and set in as pastor of The Apostolic Gospel Church in Ramsaytown in July 1996. He also was employed as a teacher’s aide for the Brookville Area School District.
Brother Rex was an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and enjoyed attending the Brookville Raider football games. He loved talking to people about the Word of God and praying for anyone who had a need. A 32nd degree Mason, he was a Past Master for Hobah Lodge in Brookville.
On December 27, 1997, he married the former Patti Lockard, who survives.
Also surviving are his sister, Sandra (Tom) Kilkenny of Ocala, FL; his brother-in-law, Robert Dingus of Ocala, FL; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, his wife’s family and his church family, and his kitty Patches.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Steven Slaughter; two sisters, Kimberly Langhans and Kristina Dingus; two infant nephews, Steven Slaughter Jr. and Max Dingus; and an infant great-niece, Madalynn Harrison.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 20, 2022, at the Peterson Funeral Home, 153 Jefferson Street, Brookville. Arrangements entrusted to Brenda Shumaker. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with Bishop Allen Jeffries and Bishop Rick L. Sparrow presiding.
Interment will be in St. John’s Windy Hill Cemetery.
