Paul Peace Obituary

Paul Franklin Peace, 89, of South Paradise  passed away April 1, 2023 at his home after a long battle with Parkinsonism Disease.

Paul was born on March 15, 1934 in Henderson Township, the son of the late Wade Daniel  and Jessie Averil (Cramer) Peace. On May 28, 1955 he married the love of his life, Alice (Strouse) Peace,  and they were married nearly 50 years until she passed away on April 9, 2005.

Paul was a skilled carpenter.  His career started by helping Don Reed build barns, working with Mowrey Lumber and then Castonguay Construction.  Gradually he established  the self-owned Peace Kitchens which he successfully operated with two of his sons for many years.

Paul was member of the Paradise United Church of Christ, where he served on the church consistery & cemetery committee for many years. He was a member of Past to Present Machinery Association and the Pennsylvania Archaeological Society, Chapter 29.

He was an avid hunter and viewed hunting as a rite of passage for the men in his family. Paul would take off the whole first week of buck season to go hunting with his sons and grandsons. Some of his other interests were raising fruit and  wood working. He made it a tradition to make each member of the family a clock when they got married.

Paul was a devoted family man.  He supported any interest his children had over the years and arranged a variety of memorable family vacations. He will be remembered for being a well-traveled, humble man, who visited England, Scotland, France and Italy, as well as much of the United States.

He is survived by his four children: Gregory P. Peace of Reynoldsville and his companion Kathy Ruth, Daniel W. Peace and his wife Karen of Summerville, Bradley J. Peace and his wife Tina of Reynoldsville, and Jennifer  Peace Shick and her husband Joe of DuBois; twelve grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and eighteen  great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth M. Wright of Staples, MN and Sharon Bennett and her husband Mike of Reynoldsville.

In addition to his parents and wife, Paul was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law Letitia Peace, grandson, Kyle J. Peace, two brothers, John Peace and Allen Peace, and two sisters, Cora May Kuntz and Anne A. Daughterty.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc. in Big Run. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at the Paradise United Church of Christ at 11am with an additional hour of viewing starting  at 10am.  Pastor Donna Jarrell and Barry Fillman will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.
