Paul Harvey Obituary

Dr. Paul Earle Harvey, 80, of Coolspring, passed away on February 19, 2025, at Penn Highlands DuBois.

He was born in Punxsutawney on July 06, 1944, a son of the late Earle Theodore Harvey and Arlene Elizabeth (Horner) Harvey.

He lived his whole life in Coolspring and was a member of the Coolspring Presbyterian Church.

Paul married his sweetheart Marilyn Bernice Roeper, they enjoyed one another’s company and had many wonderful years together.

Paul was a 1961 graduate of Punxsutawney Area High School. He then went on to further his education to become a physician at Clarion University, St. Vincent College and West Virginia University.

Dr. Harvey dedicated this life to the well-being of the people at DuBois and Brookville Hospital’s and at Allegheny Health Center for fifty years. His unwavering commitment to medicine, deep compassion for his patients, and tireless service made him a cornerstone of the community.  He was known for listening with kindness and patience, he was more than just a doctor-he was a healer in every sense of the word.

Paul was instrumental in co-founding the Coolspring Power Museum in 1985.  He was a pillar of the engine collecting community in Coolspring which drew other collectors from all around the United States each year.  His collection harks back to the early days of the hobby, and he witnessed the bitter end of the first generation of oil field and industrial engines, making great effort to save some of the early machines for the future.  Paul’s hospitality was fantastic, he was a great friend to all, and a really gentle soul. He enjoyed traveling and meeting different people everywhere he went.

In addition to his wife Marilyn, he is survived by one son, Michael David (Kelly) Hoffman of Coolspring; three grandchildren, Riley Hoffman, Colton Hoffman and Aden Ricotta.

Preceded in death by his parents and his dear aunt Dorothy Kougher.

Friends will be received from 1-3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, officiated by Reverand Robert Hrisak.

Interment will follow at Ohl Cemetery.
