Patricia Verostic Obituary

Patricia Mae (Sikora) Verostic, 72, of Punxsutawney, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, January 14, 2022.

She was born in DuBois on January 25, 1949, a daughter of the late Walter Joseph Sikora and Vern (Mehok) Sikora.

Pat was a member of Saints Cosmas and Damian Catholic Church.

On April 1, 1967, she became the wife of Andrew Joseph Verositic.  He preceded her in death on February 04, 2013.

Pat and Andy lived in the Pittsburgh area, where they raised a family and worked.  Pat worked at Red Lobster and Giant Eagle in Pittsburgh.

She enjoyed baking, making rosary beads, crocheting, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, exercising and talking on the phone to friends and relatives.

Pat was diagnosed with COPD in 2008, although some of her grandchildren referred to her "Zippy".  She became instrumental in starting a COPD support group at Punxsutawney Area Hospital. Her goal was to educate, support and offer comfort to others who also suffered from the disease.

She is survived by three children, Andrew James Verostic and wife Eryn of Coolspring, Leslie Weigand and husband Randy of Allison Park and Denise Sowers of Uniontown; five grandchildren, A.J. Verostic, Cody Verostic, Christopher Weigand, Kaylee and Timothy Sowers; one great grandson, Braxton; one brother, Edward Sikora and wife Marlene of DuBois; three sisters, Ronnie Mitchell of Albany, New York, Nancy Selzer and husband Dave of DuBois and Ann Moore and husband Dan of Lake Orion, Michigan; sister in-law, Elaine Sikora (wife of the late Joseph Sikora)  of Punxsutawney.

There will be no visitation.  A funeral mass will be held at Saints Cosmas and Damian Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 19, 2022, celebrated by Monsignor Joseph Riccardo.

Interment will follow at Adrian Anita Roman Catholic Cemetery, McCalmont Township.

Memorial donations may be made in Pat’s memory to St. Judes Children Hospital or the COPD Foundation.
