Patricia Giavedoni Obituary

Patricia Ann Giavedoni, 86, of Punxsutawney, passed away February 22, 2023, surrounded by her family at AM/PM Nursing Home. 

She was born on December 28, 1936, in Punxsutawney the daughter of the late Elmer John DeSandro and Dora Louise (Test) Desandro.

On August 11, 1956, she married Angelo Donald Giavedoni Sr., they enjoyed nearly fifty-nine years of marriage. He preceded her in death on June 8, 2015.

Retired, Patricia worked for the Jefferson County Assistance Office as a caseworker.  Helping others was important to Pat.

She was a member of Saints Cosmas and Damian Roman Catholic Church.  She loved music and singing, many folks may remember her for the sound of her voice as a cantor and singing in the church choir. 

Pat had a sunny disposition and she made friends easily.  She always wore a smile up until the day she passed away.

Reading and writing was her passion.  She was an accomplished story writer and had been published through the Hometown Magazine, The Spirit and a grief magazine.

She was a fantastic mother and grandmother, she never missed an event the children and grandchildren were participating in.  Her nutrolls were fabulous and the enjoyed teaching the granddaughters to make family recipes.

Patricia is survived by her five children: Angelo D. Giavedoni Jr of Punxsutawney, Lisa Gourley and her husband John of Punxsutawney, Anita Lefever and her husband Mike of Lancaster, Laura Mesoraco and her husband Doug of Punxsutawney and Tony Giavedoni and his wife Barbie of Punxsutawney; twelve grandchildren: Hannah (Chuck) Garber, Heather Giavedoni, Matthew (Alena) Gourley, Sarah Young and Tim Heffelfinger, Derek (Tori) Lefever, Chelsea Lefever, Devin (Kira)Mesoraco, Jordan Mesoraco, Lauren Giavedoni, Braxton Giavedoni and Conner Giavedoni; eight great grandchildren: Hayden Garber, Joanna Garber, Issadora Gourley, Jacob Gourley, Ian Gourley, Dominick Young, Luke Mesoraco and Lily Mesoraco.

In addition to her parents and husband, Patricia was preceded in death by three brothers: John, Donald and William DeSandro and a daughter in law Heidi (Beatty) Giavedoni, a great grandson, Bodhi Grant Gourley.

Friends will be received from 3-6 p.m. Thursday, February 23, 2023, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

A funeral will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Friday, co-celebrated by Monsignor Riccardo and Monsignor Kaza.

Interment will follow at the Adrian-Anita Roman Catholic Cemetery, McCalmont Twp.

A direct quote from Pat was “she lived, she loved, she laughed, she cried and then one day she died.”
