Norman Eugene Reed, 88, of Henderson Township, Reynoldsville, passed away February 9, 2023, at home.
He was born on July 24, 1934 in Punxsutawney the son of the late Donald and Arveda (Sprague) Reed.
On April 12, 1958, he married his beloved wife Sarah Mae (Strouse) Reed, they enjoyed sixty-three years of marriage prior to her death on July 10, 2021.
He served his country in the United States Army.
Norman was a self-employed farmer and had taken over the family farm following his discharge from the Army. He was very proud to be able to keep the family farm alive after his father passed away, he spent most of his life tending to the farm and raising his children with Sarah.
He was a longtime, faithful member of the Paradise United Church of Christ. Norman devoted many hours volunteering at the church, in service of God and other parishioners.
He also belonged to the Holstein Association and Farm Bureau. Mr. Reed was one of the first Board of Directors at the Farm Bureau.
He enjoyed spending time with his late wife and his family.
He is survived by his four children: Fred Reed and his wife Renee of Reynoldsville, Melanie Shepler and her husband Kevin of Troutville, Mary Hollopeter and her husband Brett of Rockton and Gary Reed and his wife Sherri of Reynoldsville; eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; two brothers: John Reed of Punxsutawney and Richard “Dick” Reed and his wife Judy of Falls Creek; two sisters: Sarah Perry of Dover, Fl and Betty Dickey and her husband Rich of Reynoldsville.
In addition to his parents and wife, Norman was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Shaffer.
The family will receive friends on Monday, February 13, 2023, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Paradise United Church of Christ.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at the Paradise United Church of Christ with Pastor’s Barry Fillman and Donna Jarrell officiating.
Burial will be in Yohe Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Paradise United Church of Christ.
