Minnie Marie Powell, 86, of Punxsutawney, passed away June 19, 2023, at Mulberry Square.
She was born on April 25, 1937, in Dayton, PA the daughter of the late Bert and Sadie (Watt) Orf. On October 2, 1963, she married James Lee Powell, who preceded her in death on April 16, 2008.
Minnie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She always made sure everyone was taken care of and had a full belly. She enjoyed cooking and helping on the family farm. Her hobbies formerly included quilting, sewing, crocheting, and most recently 300 piece puzzles, which she could put together in three days.
Minnie is survived by her six children: Linda Foose and her husband Harold of Dayton, Richard Powell and his wife Tammy of Mayport, Wayne Powell and his wife Regina of Dayton, Kathy Lewis and her husband Adam of Punxsutawney, Donna Shoemaker and her husband Vaughn of Punxsutawney and Julia Schimp of Mayport; nine grandchildren, three step grandchildren and four great grandchildren and four step great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Minnie was preceded in death by her son, Frank Powell and brother, Leon Orf.
The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, and from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Thursday at the Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc. Punxsutawney.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Carole Bergman officiating.
Interment will be in Hopewell Cemetery.
