Melanie Sue Weaver, 55, of Big Run, passed away November 17, 2022, at her home.
She was born on January 11, 1967, in Punxsutawney the daughter of the late John and Joan (Bonner) Firment.
Melanie worked as a Medic with various ambulance services and most recently with Clearfield EMS and Dusan. She worked in service of others at their critical time of need for over 17 years. She was level one and two firefighter, she also worked as an EMS instructor. Melanie served as the DuBois City Fire Training officer. She shared her skill and knowledge with many students over the years.
She was a member of 4th Ward Fire Company, West Sandy, Sugarcreek Twp. Armstrong County and Big Run fire companies. Along with her volunteer work, she devoted her time to everything her boys were involved with as they grew up, which included being a scoutmaster and PTO. Melanie served on the Punxsutawney Area School Board for a number of years.
Melanie will be remembered for her strong worth ethic and willingness to always help others. Above all else, Melanie loved her family, she taught them life skills of hard work, kindness, fortitude and service to others by example. Her grandchildren were especially dear to her, she made sure that they all had mini turn out firefighter turn out gear.
Melanie is survived by her two sons: John M. Weaver and Kiersten Wasicki of Rossiter and Daniel J. Weaver and his wife Autumn of Punxsutawney; her fiancé, Alan Heck; seven grandchildren: Taylor Weaver, Taban Weaver, Troy Weaver, Matt Weaver, Cora Christian, Lucy Ann Weaver and Piper Weaver; and a sister, Darlene Firment of Punxsutawney
The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 20, 2022, from 2-8pm at the Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc. Big Run location. **ADDITIONAL viewing will be held on Monday from 9am until 11am at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc. Punxsutawney location.
A funeral service will be held at the Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc. **Punxsutawney funeral home on Monday, November 21, 2022, at 11am. Interment will follow at Circle Hill Cemetery.
