Matthew James Means, 55, of Punxsutawney, passed away April 16, 2023, at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was born on June 4, 1967, in Punxsutawney, the son of the late Gustaf “Gus” A. Means and Kathryn “Dolly” (Umbaugh) Means. His mother survives and resides in Punxsutawney.
He was the owner and operator of G&J Welding and Machine. If he wasn’t in his machine shop or making sure the grass was mowed, he would be at a motocross track or a wrestling match cheering for his grandchildren. In his spare time he enjoyed building, breaking, and fixing his own and his many friends machines and mud toys.
Matthew is survived by his son, Derek Means and his wife Kayla (Atcheson) Means; three grandchildren: Gannon Matthew, Bennett Paul and Harper Coryn Christine; a brother, Gustaf A. Means, Jr.; two sisters: Mary Ann Means and companion Pauline, and Melissa Snyder and husband Mike. He will be truly missed by Jacki and their pet pig, Charlie.
At the wishes of Matthew there will be no viewing.
A private graveside service will be held for family and friends at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Ridgemont Cemetery, Bell Township. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc. Punxsutawney.
