Mary Hoover, 89, of Punxsutawney, passed away on July 6, 2022.
She was born on October 10, 1932, to Rocco and Duna (Rich) DelBaggio in Tyrone, PA. She married William E. Hoover of Plumville on September 13, 1958, and they shared 30 years of marriage until his time of death on June 24, 1989.
Mary was a member and attended SS. Cosmas & Damian Roman Catholic Church. She was also a member of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary. She worked at Cameron Sylvania in Reynoldsville and for Francis Lorenzo Dental Office in Punxsutawney. She owned and operated Hoover Trucking & Hoover Concrete with her late husband Bill and after his death co-owned Hoover Concrete with her son Todd.
Mary was known for her famous peanut butter fudge. She loved cooking, canning, and baking. She loved to share her canned goods, raisin-filled cookies, and Belgian waffle cookies with family and friends. She loved playing cards with her grandkids and attending their sporting events. She looked forward to family get-togethers.
She is survived by three children, Pamela and husband John Buffington, Sandy and husband Jim Sloniger, and Todd and wife Peggy Hoover, all of Punxsutawney, six grandchildren, Johnny Buffington and Rhonda Killian, Sarah and husband Tom Hanslovan, Mary Sloniger, Ryan and wife Alyssa Sloniger, Willie Hoover, Brianna Hoover, and five great-grandchildren Johnny and Ashton Buffington, and Benny, Lucia, and Matthew Hanslovan.
Also surviving are her brother Rocco DelBaggio, sister-in-laws Linda DelBaggio and Marsha DelBaggio, and several nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill, her brothers Patsy, Eddie, Felix, Benny, Johnny, George, Charlie, and Jimmy DelBaggio, and her sister Nunzie Duganier.
Family and friends will be received at the Shumaker Funeral Home in Punxsutawney from 2:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 8, 2022.
A Funeral mass will be held at SS. Cosmas & Damian Catholic Church on Saturday, July 9 at 11:00 a.m., Celebrated by Monsignor Joseph Riccardo.
Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to SS. Cosmas & Damian Church or School.
