Martha Grace Hawk

Martha “Rebel” Grace Hawk, 91, of Punxsutawney, passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at Mulberry Healthcare and Rehabilitation.

She was born at home in Ramsaytown on June 01, 1933, a daughter of the late Francis Allshouse and Martha (Stewart) Allshouse.

In 1969, she married Donald Arthur Hawk.  He preceded her in death on March 31, 2019.

Martha was formerly a Lieutenant Colonel with the Civil Air Patrol, the official civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force.

For many years she was the instructor of the Elegance School of Beauty in Punxsutawney.  She inspired many young hair stylists while teaching them the skills and knowledge they would need to become a talented hairdresser.

She was firey and outspoken, she will be remembered for her “Firey Soul” and determination.  She loved her family and enjoyed the time she spent with them.

In her down time, she loved to travel, cook, bake, crochet and take care of her garden.

She is survived by seven children, William (Alicia) Hawk of Punxsutawney, Dawn Anne Hawk of St. Lucie, Florida, Chris Althoff of Maryland, Margaret Althoff of Ohio, Martha Baker of Maryland, Carol Denny of Maryland and Mary Beck of Kansas; grandchildren, Lucille Hawk, Idella Hawk, Gage and Tristan Bair.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson, Waylon Hawk, brother, John Allshouse and sister, Frances Ulmer.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no visitation or viewing.  Arrangements entrusted to Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
