Lois Rodgers Obituary

Lois Etha (Stewart) Rodgers, 83, of Punxsutawney, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, April 27, 2025, with her loving family by her side.

She was born at home in Reynoldsville on September 11, 1941, a daughter of the late Clair Harrison Stewart and Hilda Garnet (Dobson) Stewart.

On March 12, 1959, she married James Alvin Rodgers.  They enjoyed nearly fifty-nine years of marriage prior to his death on February 16, 2018 at home.  Lois passed away on her beloved husband Alvin’s birthday, in the very same house they built together and raised their children.

Mrs. Rodgers was a member of the First Church of God.

Her enjoyments were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She will be remembered as the sweetest mother that ever lived.  Up to the very end of her life, she still wanted to be sure her loved ones had what they needed and were taken care of.

She enjoyed quilting and keeping an immaculate home.

She is survived by three children, Kathryn L.(Frederick) Coulter of Punxsutawney, Carol A. (Wayne) Fike of Summerville and Alvin D. (Maryann) Rodgers of Reynoldsville; eight grandchildren, William J. (Erin) Coulter, Douglas P. Coulter, Jeffery W. (Myranda) Fike, Jennifer R. (Matthew) Wilson, Heather L. Rodgers, Heidi N. Rodgers, Caitlyn Rodgers, Samuel A.(Madi) Rodgers; fourteen great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Edna “Jane” Jones of Erie, Illinois and one sister in-law, Ellen Stewart of Silvis, Illinois.

Preceded in death by her parents and husband, one grandson, Frederick Nathan Coulter, one brother, James Clair Stewart, one sister, Frances Arlene Stage.

In accordance with her wishes, arrangements were private for her family and under the care of Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
