Leora Smith Obituary

Leora Mae Smith, 77, of Skarbek Road, Punxsutawney, passed away on Sunday, April 25, 2021 at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

She was born in McCalmont Township on September 20, 1943, a daughter of the late Homer Simon Pifer and Elva Florence (Rhoads) Pifer.

On October 16, 1998, she became the wife of Robert Charles “Midnight” Smith.

Mrs. Smith was a member of the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church on Airport Road, Punxsutawney.

Leora worked as a Cheniller and sewing machine operator for nearly fifty years at Standard Pennant in Big Run.

She was a very generous, caring and good person that enjoyed being with her family.

In her spare time, she enjoyed Jigsaw puzzles and Crytoquotes.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by one sister, Dorothy Wanda Shields of Punxsutawney, five stepchildren, Robin (Lonnie) Smith of Valier, Clifford (Heather) Smith of Punxsutawney, Shawn Smith of Punxsutawney, Greg Smith of Punxsutawney, and Elizabeth “Beth” (Chuck) Edwards of Florida; numerous grandchildren; a special niece, Patty (Jerry) Lellock of Punxsutawney; special great nephew, Dakota Lellock of Punxsutawney and great niece Amber (Tanner) Soller of Butler.

Preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Glenn Pifer, a sister, Emma Umbaugh and a stepson, Doug Smith.

Friends will be received from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor David Saylor.

Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Bell Township, Jefferson County.

Memorial donations may be made in Leora’s memory to the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, c/o First English Lutheran Church, N. Gilpin Street, Punxsutawney, PA 15767 or the American Heart Association.
