Larry James Whitmer, 70, of Punxsutawney, formerly of Youngstown, New York, passed away comfortably at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Niagara Falls, New York on August 25, 1953, a son of the late Charles Whitmer and Helen (Lawson) Whitmer.
Larry worked for New York State Parks system for more than 25 years.
In his free time, he loved to ride his Harley with the love of his life, Susan Fleming. They traveled together often. A tradition for them was an annual trip to Washington, D.C. for the Rolling Thunder Motorcycle Rally.
Family was everything to Larry. He really enjoyed family get togethers, especially those with fireworks.
In addition to Susan, he is survived by three daughters, Steychia, Melissa (Steven Galbraith) and Kayla (Nathan Goss) and two stepsons, David and Jeff Fleming. He is survived by ten grandchildren, Oriana, Austin, Victoria, Alyssa, Mackenzie, Jeffrey, Riley, Zachary, Katie and Mekenzie and two great grandchildren, Aubriella and Zayden. He is also survived by three brothers, David Smith, Albert Smith and Jerry (Karen Feathers) Whitmer, all of Youngstown, New York.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no viewing. Friends will be received from 4-6 p.m. Friday, July 5, 2024, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney. A second opportunity to offer support and condolences will be held in Western New York in the coming weeks.
