Larry Burkett Obituary

Larry Wayne Burkett, 79, of Punxsutawney, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

He was born in Punxsutawney on June 20, 1944, a son of the late Henry Clarence Burkett and Harriet E. (Fenstermaker) Burkett.

On January 15, 1964, he married the former Mae Darlene Gaul.  She survives and resides in Punxsutawney.

Larry previously worked as a Union Coalminer for Greenwich Collieries and Barnes and Tucker for over twenty-four years.  Following his career at the coal mines, he worked for BFG Manufacturing for eighteen years.

He enjoyed tinkering in his garage.  His neighbors always knew he would lend a hand with any welding needs they may have had.  He was a master at figuring out a part or solution to the problem and then was able to build it.

In addition to his wife Mae, he is survived by two sons, Rodney Burkett of Punxsutawney, and Kevin (Ann) Burkett of Reynoldsville; two grandchildren, Jordan, and Jaelene Burkett; one brother, Verlon (Marian) Burkett of Punxsutawney; one sister, Anna Mae Peffer of Covode.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one infant son, Danny Allen Burkett; one brother, Lorraine Burkett; two sisters, Maxine Baun, Betty Burkett.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no viewing.  Arrangements entrusted to Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
