Kay Covatch Obituary

Charlene Kay Covatch, 82, affectionately known as Gram by her beloved grandchildren and their friends, passed away on Monday, June 17, 2024, at Mulberry Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Punxsutawney surrounded by her family.

Kay was born January 8, 1942, in Timblin to the late Paul and Edna (Glontz) Keller.

On December 6,1958, she married the love of her life, Albert Covatch, who preceded her in death on May 18th, 2006. He will once again get to polka dance with his forever partner.

In addition to raising three rambunctious boys, Kay worked at Ruth and Harry’s Bakery, Grube Motel, Loree Footwear, Rolo Jensen, and JS Accounting. She graduated with honors from DuBois Business College in 1982.

Kay was a member of the Albion Heights United Methodist Church and Elk Run Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.

Kay will be remembered for her laughter, quick wit and kindness to everyone she met. She always had a smile on her face.   There was nothing more important to Kay than her family, she was “the glue” that held everyone together.  She was very supportive, loving, kind and helped raise all her family in one way or another.  The impact she made on their lives will never be forgotten and her memory will be cherished forever.  The love her family has for her is immeasurable. Kay will also be missed by her two dogs, that aren’t really hers, as she would say, Jaxan and Remington. They kept her company throughout her days at home since retirement and made her get up from her chair to let them out numerous times during the day.

She is survived by her three sons, Kenny (Jill) Covatch of Punxsutawney, Gary (Tina) Covatch of Morgantown, WV, and David (Veronica) Covatch of Punxsutawney. She was the proud grandmother of Doug (Julie) Covatch, Chad (Paige) Covatch, Courtney Covatch, Kayla Covatch, and Lindsay (Jonte) Scott. She loved being a great-grandma Kay to Alexis, Braydyn, Madison, Hunter, Kelsea, Hailey, Emma, and Brysyn; two brothers and a sister, Leroy (Nancy) Keller of Emerickville, Charles (Kathy) of Warren, and Elizabeth Davies of Youngstown, OH.

In addition to her dear husband Albert and parents, Kay was preceded in death by an infant sister, Isabel, and an infant brother, Richard.

Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, June 20, 2024, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.  A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Doug Wolfe.

Interment will be at Coolspring Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff at both Punxsutawney Area Hospital and Mulberry for their excellent care provided to Kay over the last month.
