Karen Marie Kovalyak, 67, of Punxsutawney, passed away at Magee Women’s Hospital on Friday, October 4, 2024, with her loving family by her side.
She was born in DuBois on November 09, 1956, a daughter of the late William Kovalyak and Dorothy Marie (Bracken) Kovalyak.
She was Catholic by faith, she attended SSCD and the Byzantine Catholic Church.
Karen was a 1974 graduate of Punxsutawney Area High School.
For many years, Karen worked at AMES Department Store, where she was known for dedication, work ethic, and friendly demeanor. She built lasting relationships with both her coworkers and customer, leaving a legacy of kindness and loyalty. She had many great friendships with other residents of Mahoning Towers, she appreciated the wonderful times they spent together.
She is survived by her only sister, Darlene Carney and husband Tom; one niece, who is also her god-daughter, Amber Burkett and husband Richard; two great nephews, Noah and Tucker Burkett, all of Punxsutawney; a special four-legged friend, Patrick.
Preceded in death by her parents.
In accordance with her wishes there will be no visitation. Arrangements entrusted to Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
Though she will be deeply missed, her love and generosity will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
Memorial donations may be made in Karen’s memory to Four Footed Friends in Indiana, PA or to Willow Run Sanctuary.
