Judith Marie Payne

Judith Marie Payne, 71, of Punxsutawney, passed away on Friday, June 30, 2023, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

She was born in Phillipsburg, Centre County, on July 15, 1951, a daughter of the late Bernard “Bunny” Humphrey and Ella Marie (Amundson) Humphrey.

Judy was a familiar face at many retail stores that she worked at over the years to include Mahoning Hardware, Jamesway, Ragley’s and Nic’s Tobacco Outlet.  She enjoyed the people she worked with. She led by example as a dedicated hard worker, which made her an effective and respected manager over the years.

Family was the most important thing in Judy’s life, she loved her daughter and grandchildren dearly.  She enjoyed camping at the cabins at Parker Dam and spending time with them doing the simple little things of life.  Her life was also enriched by the time she spent with her best friend Penny Titus. In her down time, she enjoyed reading.

She is survived by her daughter Melinda Marie Pifer and husband Howard of Punxsutawney and three grandchildren, Hannah Fetterman, Parker and Olivia Pifer.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no viewing.  A graveside service will be held at a later date.  Arrangements entrusted to Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

Her ashes will be interred at Ridgemount Cemetery.
