Jenny Ott Obituary

Jennieve, ”Jenny Vee” Ott, 83, of Big Run, passed away with her family by her side on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at her daughter's home in Salem, Utah.

She was born in Harrisburg, Arkansas on December 28, 1938, a daughter of the late Voy Rivers Gillentine and Sylvia Kathryn (Deckleman) Gillentine.

On May 25, 1962, she married Howard Earl Ott.  The two met when Howard was stationed at Little Rock Air Force Base in Jacksonville, Arkansas.  They made their home in Big Run for over fifty-five years.

Jenny strived throughout her life to keep the covenants she made with her Heavenly Father when she was baptized in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints; to mourn with those that mourn, to comfort those in need of comfort, and to stand as a witness of God at all times and in all things and in all places.

Jenny worked as a secretary at Standard Pennant for over twenty years. People loved to listen to her speak with her smooth Southern Drawl, she never lost that Arkansas dialect.  She always wore a smile and enjoyed a hearty laugh.  Annually she enjoyed greeting children on her front porch for Halloween.  Jenny and Howard spent time going to auctions and having garage sales.

Jenny was an avid reader.  She once said that she even loved reading cereal boxes.  Alzheimer’s and Dementia took many things from her, but up until she closed her eyes for the very last time, she could read. Her homemade rolls were out of this world and she generously shared them with friends and neighbors.

She also loved quilting and stitched with exactness.  Her work was beautiful and loved by all who were priviledged to receive anything sewn by her.  Though threadbare now, some of her grandchildren still snuggle up at night with the quilt grandma made them.

In addition to her husband Howard, she is survived by four children, Leslie Baxter and husband Kenneth of Salem, Utah, Donald Ott and wife Cheryl of Linesville,  Daniel Ott of West Jordan, Utah, and Darren Ott and wife Karen of Coudersport; nine grandchildren, Michelle Baxter-Maynard, Chad Baxter and wife Jen, Megan Jepperson, K.C. Baxter, Christian Baxter, Josiah Ott, Owen Ott, Ameilia Ott and Ethan Ott; eleven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Voy Gillentine and wife Vicki of Osceola, Arkansas, Jim Gillentine and wife Barbara of Memphis, Ricky Gillentine of Osceola, Arkansas; four sisters, Patricia Baird and husband Larry of Como, Mississippi, Melanie Miller of Tennessee, Johnny Karen Holland of Tennessee and Sheila Gillentine.

She is preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Jackie Steward.

Friends will be received on Friday, September 30, 2022, from 6 p.m to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m.  Saturday at the funeral home presided by Bishop Jeff Seabach.

Interment will follow at McClure Cemetery. Big Run.
