James Robert Uplinger, 79, of Reynoldsville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at Brighton Rehabilitation and Wellness Center in Beaver, PA.
He was born in DuBois on October 30, 1943, a son of the late Roy Uplinger and Elsie (Dickey) Uplinger.
Mr. Uplinger was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He was a very proud and patriotic man. He was a founding member of the Jefferson County Veteran’s Honor Guard and volunteered many hours honoring fellow Veteran’s and participating in local veteran events.
On July 3, 1965, he married the former Laura Lorraine Lougee. Laura preceded him in death on April 7, 2008.
Jim loved farming, hunting, and fishing. Spending time with his family and being around people was by far his favorite pass time. He never met a stranger and he could strike up a conversation anywhere he went.
He was a member of the Punxsutawney Loyal Order of Moose and the American Legion Sykesville Memorial Post 223.
Jim is survived by four children, Lisa (Fred) Wonderling of Punxsutawney, Donald Uplinger of Falls Creek, Laurie S. (James) Miller of Punxsutawney, and James R. "JR" (Angela) Uplinger of Cranberry Township, PA; Grandchildren, Chris Uplinger, Kayla Miller, Sonya Miller, Cal Richter, Anna Richter, Regan Uplinger, Dean Uplinger, Lorinda Baum, Donovan Uplinger, Johnny Uplinger, David Cunningham, Jason Cunningham, Amy Wonderling and Martin Wonderling; fourteen great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Laura and son, Guy Uplinger.
Friends will be received from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, October 15, 2023, and from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Monday, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Jim Lantz.
Interment will follow at Reynoldsville Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the Jefferson County Veteran’s Honor Guard,
