James Garfield Marsden, FAPMI, 87, of Big Run, passed away Monday, April 25, 2022, at his home.
He was born on June 11, 1934, in Chester County, the son of late Joseph and Dorothy (Yerk) Marsden. On August 29, 1959, he married Sandra Diane (Davis) Marsden, who survives and resides in Big Run.
Retired, James worked as an metallurgist at Air Products and Chemicals Inc, in Allentown, PA and Hoeganaes Corporation, in Riverton, New Jersey.
Jim was incredibly knowledgeable in the field of Metallurgy. He was a proud member of the APMI, American Powder Metallurgy Institute. He was a fellow of APMI and he received the Distinguished Service Award. He loved to share his knowledge with others, he wrote a book on the sintering process and he also taught classes at Drexel University in Philadelphia.
He was fun loving and enjoyed joking with others. He often left people wondering if he was really serious about what he was teasing about. He loved his wife and children, he was always going above and beyond to provide for them.
James is survived by his loving wife of sixty-two years, Sandra; three children: James G. Marsden II and his wife Gail of Knoxdale, Jodi Lynne Norton of New Millport and Sean Christian Marsden of Big Run; and his beloved pet parrot Beaker.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Marsden and a sister, Margaret Diehl.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no visitation. Arrangements entrusted to Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Big Run.
