Harland DeWayne “Pete” Shaffer, 79, of Coolspring, died February 8, 2021 at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
He was born on at home in Coolspring on November 17, 1941 a son of the late Harland “Jack” and Violet (Baughman) Shaffer.
Pete worked as a truck driver for Campbell and Burns, Inc., in Brookville, PA, delivering fuel and gasoline to homes and businesses for twenty-five years. He was a member of the Coolspring Presbyterian Church. Pete loved hunting, fishing, trapping, and gardening. Pete was a volunteer fireman for Knox Township Volunteer Fire Department. He later became chief of Station Two in Coolspring which later became Oliver Township Volunteer Fire Department. Pete was past president of the Coolspring Cemetery Association. In retirement Pete enjoyed mowing the grounds of the Coolspring Power Museum.
Survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Cherie Ellen (Coleman) Shaffer, son Andrew Charles (Cheri Lou) of Fombell, PA; two daughters, Linda Diana Shaffer (Companion Steve Seger) of Punxsutawney and Carole Sue (Dave) VanMeter of Portage PA; grandchildren, Gretchen and Josiah Shaffer, and Donald Annonio IV; brothers, Richard (Marga) Shaffer, Robert (Ruth) Shaffer; sisters, Barbara Coleman, JoAnn Brosius, Nancy (Lyle) Shaffer, numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and brother James Shaffer.
At Pete’s request, there will be no visitation. A Celebration of Life service will take place at a later date. Burial will be in the Coolspring Cemetery.
