Gwendolyn Means Pounds, 94, and Thomas Jacob Pounds, 98, both of Punxsutawney, passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, within hours of each other at Mulberry Square.
They were married in 1953 and started their marriage on Belmont Avenue in Punxsutawney, the remainder of their homelife was on Route 36 South.
Gwendolyn was born on January 22, 1928, in Big Run, a daughter of the late Mary Ellen (Wineberg) Means and Ezra R. Means.
She was a graduate of Big Run High School, then attended Cosmetology School and worked as a beautician for a few years.
Gwendolyn was lovingly known as “Short Stop” and her love for mowing the lawn.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Olive Pifer, Blake Means and Allen Means.
Thomas, known as Tim, was born August 10, 1923, in Punxsutawney to the late Elin “Helen” Maria (Berquist) Pounds and Ray E. Pounds. Tim was a Brakeman/Conductor for B&O Railroad. For many years he was the UTV representative for his union. He was a World War II Veteran and served with General Patton’s Third Army as part of the “Red Ball Express”.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Ralston, Carl, William “Bill” and Theodore “Ted” Pounds; three sisters, Kathryn “Katie” Hohman, Carolyn Lettie and Geraldine “Gerry” Wishinsky.
They are survived by their only daughter, Brenda Atkins and husband Larry of McCaysville, Georgia.
“Two hearts together forever” were interred at Morningside Cemetery in DuBois.
Arrangements were entrusted to Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
