Guy Bianco

Guy Joseph Bianco, Jr., a retired U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer 2, passed away on July 6, 2023, in Wilmington, North Carolina, surrounded by his family.
Born on June 11, 1933, in Punxsutawney, Guy was the son of Guy J. Sr. and Thelma K. (Emberg) Bianco.
Guy dedicated 23 honorable years of his life to the U.S. Army and retired in 1976. His career was filled with remarkable achievements, including serving in Berlin, Germany, from 1960 to 1962, at the Joint Overt Interrogation Center Berlin, 513th Military Intelligence Group. He also completed two tours in Vietnam with the 3rd Special Forces Group, and 5th Special Forces Group, known as the "Green Berets." Most of his military service was at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he received numerous awards, decorations, and accommodations. Among his highest honors were two bronze stars for meritorious service in combat.
Following his retirement from the military, Guy settled in Fayetteville, North Carolina, where he embarked on a successful career with the American Automobile Association (AAA) as a senior tourism editor for the eastern region of the United States. He dedicated his time to serving retired military men and women, considering it a privilege. Guy served and volunteered as the chaplain for the Retired Military Association (RMA) in Fayetteville, North Carolina, making weekly visits to veterans at the NC Veterans Home and local hospitals. He also conducted religious services on Sundays and performed burial services for deceased veterans and their families upon request.
Throughout his life, Guy found joy in various activities. He loved to travel, read, write and support his favorite sports teams, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates. Cooking a delicious Sunday afternoon Italian dinner for his family and friends brought him immense pleasure. He also enjoyed fishing and played golf for a period of time. However, above all else, spending time with his family was what he cherished the most.
Guy was preceded in death by his wife, Marie (Williams) Bianco; his parents, Guy and Thelma; his brother, Richard Bianco and wife Rose Marie; his first wife, Elaine Bianco; his daughter-in-law, Laurie Bianco; his grandson, Matthew Harris; his sister-in-law, Marilyn Bianco; and his brothers-in-law, James Pierce and Rich Steffy.
He is survived by his siblings, Jacob Bianco of Gainesville, Virginia, Dennis Bianco (DJ) of Punxsutawney, and Monica Pierce of Punxsutawney. Guy is also survived by his five loving children, Mark Bianco of Merritt Island, Florida, Jim Bianco (Laurie) of Punxsutawney, Guy J. Bianco III of Wilmington, North Carolina, Julie Donovan (Michael) of Holly Ridge, North Carolina, and Mary Biddix of Leland, North Carolina. Additionally, he leaves behind 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until noon on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
A funeral service will be held at 12:15 at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Rob Van Fossen.
Military honors will be accorded by the Jefferson County Veterans Honor Guard at Calvary Cemetery, immediately following the service at the funeral home.
