Gloria Mae Shaffer

Gloria Mae (Sutter) Shaffer, 86, of Rossiter, passed away on Sunday morning, October 3, 2021, at AM/PM Personal Care Home in Delancey surrounded by family.

She was born on January 19, 1935, in Juneau, Indiana County, a daughter of the late Lynn Sutter and Zora (Hawk) Sutter.  She was the last surviving member of fourteen Sutter children.

Gloria was a graduate of Rossiter High School.

On January 19, 1957, she married her life-long companion, Gordon Shaffer.  They had nearly sixty-five years of marriage.  He survives and resides in Rossiter.

Mrs. Shaffer was a hard-working woman all her life, she worked at Sylvania, Cameron Manufacturing, and International Jensen.  After a day’s work, she kept an immaculate home, prepared great meals for her family, and enjoyed canning produce from their garden each summer.

Playing Racko when family came to visit, cheering on the Steelers and Penn State football teams, working word search puzzles and Strawberry milkshakes were just a few of her favorite things.

In addition to her husband Gordon, she is survived by three children; Rick Sutter and wife Elaine of Punxsutawney, Sharon Caylor and husband Denny of Ringgold and Melinda Lovell and husband Dave of Montgomery, PA; five grandchildren, Luke and Ryan Sutter, Samantha Caylor, Hannah and Ashlea Lovell; one great grandson, Colton Buchheit;  and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers, Charles, Gerald, Alvis, Max, Marvin, Homer Ray, Lorraine; six sisters, Mary Gaston, Dorothy Kanouff, Bernice Smith, Francis Sutter, Madalene Lunger and Ethel Neal.

Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, October 7, 2021, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Don Brauer.

Interment will be at Union Hill Cemetery, Rossiter.
