Gladys Pearl Oaks, 84, of Punxsutawney, passed away on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at Penn Highlands DuBois. She was born in Punxsutawney on July 20, 1936, a daughter of the late
Arpad Laska and Dorothy Carr Lewis. On August 29, 1969 she married the love of her life, John Martin Oaks. They enjoyed fifty-one years together. Gladys was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed the simple things in life, particularly her family. She previously enjoyed going to the races to watch her son race. She also liked to spend time with her kitty “Callie” In addition to her husband John, she is survived by a son, John Martin Oaks and wife Krissaundra of Punxsutawney; three grandchildren, CarrieBruno and husband Kab of Bradford, PA, Christopher Cox of Punxsutawney, PA, Kody Cox, currently stationed in Hawaii; one great granddaughter, Kora Bruno; and sisters Judy Letcavage and husband Robert of Pottstown, Debbie Weaver and husband Richard of Punxsutawney, and Nancy States and husband Ralph of Punxsutawney. She is preceded in death by a son, Timothy Dean Sheriff. Friends will be received from 11-1 p.m. on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 1 p.m. officiated by Pastor Kevin Orndorff.
