Ginar Joseph Rich

Ginar Joseph Rich, 87, of Punxsutawney, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2024, at Mulberry Square.

He was born in Punxsutawney on March 19, 1937, the son of the late James Rich and Amelia (Constantino) Rich.

At the young age of nineteen, he married Darlene J. Baran.  She was his steadfast life-long companion of sixty-seven years.  They loved to travel together, especially to Las Vegas, Hawaii, and the Bahamas.

He was catholic by faith. He attended school at Saints Cosmas and Damian and was a lifelong member of the church.

Joe first worked as a Loan Officer at Farmers & Miners Bank before joining S&T Bank, where he retired from in 1999.

He loved all sports, in his younger years he enjoyed playing baseball, softball and basketball. Later, golf became his game of choice.  His claim to fame was the Hole in One he managed to get once.  He liked being outdoors and spending time on the course with his friends.  He was a die-hard season ticket holder of the Pittsburgh Penguins, a devoted fan of Notre Dame, and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He was a life member of the Elks and the Walston Club, he was also a member of the Eagles.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Ann (Kenneth) Pearce of Punxsutawney; one sister in-law, Karen Baran.

Preceded in death by his parents and brother in-law, Francis Baran.

Friends will be received from 2-6 p.m. on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc. Punxsutawney.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at Saints Cosmas and Damian Catholic Church, celebrated by Monsignor Joseph Riccardo.

Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
