Gary Eugene Huey, 74, of Rochester Mills, passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2026, following a brief illness at The Pavillion at Stow Assisted Living in Stow, Ohio, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Spangler on December 09, 1951, a son of the late Eugene Paul Huey and Julia Mae (McCarty) Huey.
Gary worked as a self-employed contractor. He enjoyed being outdoors, whether he was walking through the woods, caring for the animals he loved so much. Over the years, his gentle heart grew even softer, and although he once enjoyed hunting and fishing, he eventually found it difficult to harm the creatures he admired.
Gary was a very loving, calm and generous man. He will be fondly remembered as the best dad, who was an even better grandfather. He is survived by two daughters, Ashley (Chris) Castellanos of Canton, Ohio and Heather (Mel) Hardy of Frederick, Maryland; five grandchildren, Austin Cookro, Regan Tucker, Killian Tucker, Sean Hardy and Cadence Castellanos ; two sisters, Cheryl Brestovich of New York and Karen Reed of Punxsutawney; two brothers, Randy Huey of Marion Center and Robert Huey of Big Run; many nieces and nephews; and furry friend, Puppy.
Friends will be received from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. on June 27, 2026, 2026 at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc, Punxsutawney.
Military honors will be accorded at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., by the Jefferson County Veterans Honor Guard immediately following
Internment will take place at a later date at Pine Grove Cemetery, Urey.
