Frederick Newton Larson Sr.,82, of Big Run, passed away May 13, 2022 at his home.

He was born on March 29, 1940 in Sykesville, the son of late Newton and Viola (Lott) Larson. On September 5, 1964 he married Dorothy Ann (Shuster) Larson, who preceded him in death on August 16, 2013.

Fred served in the United States Army. During his time in the Army Fred was drafted to the New York Mets. He then started his career in shaft mining and retired from the railroad.

Fred was an avid outdoorsmen- he enjoyed hunting, fishing and loved going to his camps “Mugsy” and “The Lodge”. He was an avid sports fan and he enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events over the years. He also enjoyed trips to the casino in Seneca with this wife Dorothy.

Fred is survived by his two children: Sharon A. Stumpf and husband Jeff of Big Run, and Fred J. Larson of Altoona; four grandchildren, Jacob (Morgan) Stumpf, Stephen (Alexah) Stumpf,  Sean Larson and Danielle “Danni” Larson; three great grandchildren and one on the way: Kalysta, Kashton and Harper; two brothers: Ernie (Marla) Larson of Sykesville, Paul (Debbie) Larson of Punxsutawney; two sisters: Nancy Smith of Penfield and Tina Larson of  Dubois; He is also preceded in death by his brother Bob Larson. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 19, 2022 from 2-8pm at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc. Big Run.

A funeral service will be held at 11am on Friday, May 20, 2022 at the funeral home with Deacon Steven White officiating.

Interment will follow at S.S. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Adrian. Memorial donations may be made in Freds memory to S.S. Peter Paul Byzantine Church, 714 Sutton Street, Punxsutawney, PA 15767.
