Earl "Snook" Kanouff Obituary

Earl Wayne “Snook” Kanouff, 89, of Punxsutawney, passed away at home on Thursday, September 12, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born at home in Juneau on August 12, 1935, a son of the late Henry Clay Kanouff and Dorothy Inez (Sutter) Kanouff.

On December 10, 1977, he married the former Donna Mae Stewart.  She survives and resides in Punxsutawney.

“Snook”worked in various jobs over the years.  He drove school bus, worked for the railroad, spent some time in the coal mines, worked at Speer Carbon, then finished his career with the Punxsutawney Area School district, retiring from the maintenance department.

He was loving and kind and he enjoyed being a jokester with his family and friends.  His hobbies included fishing and golfing, and in his younger years, he liked to drive race cars on the local tracks.

In addition to his wife Donna, he is survived by three children, Debbie (Dennis) McMahan, Cheri (Darl “Butch”) Yount, and Lonny W. Kanouff, all of Punxsutawney; five grandchildren, Michael (Sherri) McMahan, Mandy McMahan, Shayne Yount, Corry Yount and Trevor (Tiffany) Yount; twelve great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents, one son, Douglas Kanouff; three brothers, Mervin Winters, Ronald Kanouff and Terry Kanouff; one sister, Shirley Jean Murray.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no visitation.  Arrangements entrusted to Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
