Dorothy M. “Dee” Brager, 70, of Big Run, passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at Mulberry Square Elder Care.
She was born in Arlington, Virginia, a daughter of the late Bernard Brager and Sylvia (Norris) Brager.
Dee was Jewish by faith.
Ms. Brager was a 1971 graduate of Cinnaminson High School in New Jersey. She then attended the College of Performing Arts in New York City, followed by a year at Gallaudet University and receiving her medical training at Hahnemann University Medical College.
She worked as a Certified Physician’s Assistant in many different states, such as South Dakota, Alaska, Michigan, Maine and Pennsylvania. Dee loved the opportunity to experience different cultures and provide medical care.
Her work eventually brought her to Pennsylvania, where she met Eugene Duane Ray. The two married on April 15, 1995. They had a true love for one another and enjoyed spending time together.
Dee and Gene were members of the Keystone Reptile Club, Inc. and joined with other volunteers for snake hunts in Potter County and Cameron County. She loved to educate others about snakes and other wildlife. Dee never met an animal she did not want to catch or pet.
She was kind, loyal and generous of spirit. She loved her family, friends and especially her patients. She drew meaning in her life by being of service to others. She will be remembered as someone who loved people and let them know by word and deed.
She especially enjoyed baking, singing, and having all kinds of pets. She was a stellar, daughter, sister, wife and friend.
In addition to her husband Gene, she is survived by three sisters, Brierly A. Acker of Diamondhead, Mississppi, Nedra G. Cawley of Riverton, New Jersey, and Ida-Meri de Blanc of Clarkdale, Arizona; nieces and nephews, Shawn B. Acker, Amanda Acker-Armstong, Peter N. de Blanc, Molly J. de Blanc and Colleen Cawley- Pattanite.
Arrangements are private and under the direction of Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Big Run.
She will be interred at McClure Cemetery, Big Run.
