Donald Barnett Obituary

Donald Jacob Barnett, 92, of Walston, passed away on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at home with his daughter by his side.

He was born in Soldier on March 23, 1929, a son of the late Jennings Clay Barnett and Margaret Elaine (Berkey) Barnett.

In 1951, he married Mary Jane Smith.  She preceded him in death on September 17, 1975.

Mr. Barnett worked for many years as a very skilled machinist.

Following retirement, he enjoyed wheeling and dealing and was considered by many of his Amish friends as the “Delivery Man.”  He loved to be around people and enjoyed heckling his friends’ He looked forward to making his weekly rounds to sell his latest “good deal” to his regular customers and friends.  With his daughter’s help, he made his last delivery in March of 2021.

Donald liked to be outdoors.  Spending time at his camp was a favorite pastime, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He had the opportunity for his final hunt with his son in November.  Playing Poker was his all-time favorite, he loved to spend time with family and friends throwing down a game or two.  He kept his mind sharp playing Solitaire when no one was around to play.

Don was well liked by many, he had a soft heart and inherent kindness for others.  He often went out of his way to do a “mission of mercy” for someone in need.

He is survived by two children, Donald Jacob Barnett II and wife Kathy of Johnstown, and Barbara Joy Barnett and doggy that he called “his boy” Rory, with whom he made his home with in Walston; two grandchildren, Donald Jacob Barnett III and wife Kelly, and Heather Jane Bennett and husband Keith, all of Berkley Springs, West Virginia; two great grandchildren, Skai Jade Nowacowsky and Devon Johnathan Barnett; one brother, Allen Barnett of Dora; one sister, Dora Joann Baker and husband Reginald of Corry, PA.

Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 5, 2021 at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

Interment will follow at Oliveburg Presbyterian Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made in Mr. Barnett’s memory to Willow Run Sanctuary, 381 E. Branch Road, Brookville, PA 15825.
