Donald A. Barger Sr., 65, of Mahaffey, passed away June 22, 2023 at his home.
He was born on November 8, 1957 in National Park, NJ the son of the late William Barger Sr. and Barbara (Tucker) Barger. On March 17, 2008 he married Donna (Niper) Barger, who survives.
Donald proudly served his country is the United States Army and retired from the Army with the rank of Staff Sargent. During his time in the military, he received the honors of Army Commendation Medal 1st OLC, Army Achievement Medal 2md OLC, Good Conduct Medal 5th AWD, Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Marksman Marksmanship Badge Rifle and Driver and Mechanic Badge.
Donald enjoyed watching the Fox News and old western movies. He will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality, ability to make anyone laugh but most of all his kind heart. You could often find him picking on one of the kids just to get arise out of them. More recently he developed a liking for travelling having just went on his first cruise earlier in June.
He is survived by his loving wife Donna Barger of Mahaffey; five children: Donald A. Barger Jr. and his wife Kristen of VA, Brandi Barger and her husband Justin Lute of Mahaffy, Robert C. Barger of Pittsburgh, Danielle N. Smith and her husband Christopher of New Florence, and Lisa N. Barger of Atlantic City, NJ; eight step children; fifteen grandchildren and seventeen step grandchildren; four sisters: Patty Barger, Delores Barger, JoAnn Barger and Diane Theodore all of NJ.
In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by two brothers, William Barger Jr. and David Barger; and two sisters, Jennifer Sullivan and Barbara Walker.
The family will receive friends from 4-7pm on Monday, June 26, 2023 at the Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc. Punxsutawney. An additional hour of viewing will be held at 10am on Tuesday at the funeral home.
A funeral service will be held at 11am on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at 11 am at the funeral home with Pastor Doug Wolfe officiating. Burial will be in Mahaffey Cemetery, with full military honors accorded by members of the Jefferson County Area Veterans Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Wounded Warriors Project.
